This quickie is a design sketch for an upcoming project that I let get out of hand. Pretty fun, did it real quick and experimented a lot. Don't get to do that too often so it was nice. Hope you enjoy.

The book is a compilation of samurai inspired stories and is aptly named Samurai: The Graphic Novel. The first installment will be released in January. I won't be in the first release. More info and ordering info can be found here:

Wow, I love the details on his clothing! I'm not familiar with the series, but I love how you've drawn everything! The colors are really nice and subdued, and I love the screentone dot pattern in the sky. The watercolor look behind the lineart is awesome, and my favorite part is the blood spatter and the sword slash going through the letters!

I hope you keep doing stuff like this, even if it's more of a "quick experiment" thing. Keep up the AMAZING work!

Thanks so much! The series isn't out yet, sometime in 2011 and it's a mini so it won't be ongoing and yadda yadda whatever... This is the style I'm working at these days it just wasn't thought out in advance and I didn't really work the pencils the way I'd like to, but otherwise this is what I'm going for these day... i guess. thanks for leaving such a generous and thought out comment.
